discount bridal gowns in Boston

Question:

Well, this isn’t a discount place, so much as it is a discount gown. I frequently haunt Boston thrift/consignment stores for bargains. And I saw a Mon Cheri gown at the Haddasah Bargain Spot on Comm. Ave. in Allston. It appears to be new (tags still on) and in good condition.  But it needs to be taken outta their front window before the sun discolors the satin. It’s a size 10, sleeveless, with a sweep train, pearl and lace decorated bodice, and plain satin skirt, A-line cut . I am  5′9" and it was the perfect length for me, with small heels on. It’s what the industry calls an "informal", I think. The best thing is the price! $200! It’s not my "dream dress" but I am sure it is for some other bride. It really is pretty. (and no, I don’t work there…) As for the Filene’s sale…I think its in the late winter/early spring but I’d call the corporate office to be sure. (Sorry, I don’t have the number) If I come across any other deals, I’ll let you know. Courtney – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I have heard about that Filene’s Basement sale, and I cannot figure out when they have it. Also, any other ideas??

There are two a year, and I think they’re in November and June. The problem is, they don’t even tell the employees ahead of time! When I was gown-shopping, I asked a clerk when the next sale was and she said they don’t tell them until the day before. Check the newspapers daily, I think the only advertising they do for the sale is in the papers. –jeniphir — "I believe there’s a commonality |  Goth Code v.3.1A:GoAu6FA6 to all humanity. Didn’t see the original post to this thread, but I highly recommend VOWS in Newton, MA.  They are a consignment store for once-worn or never-worn dresses that may have been overstocks or discontinued styles.  Anyway, they have an amazing inventory, and I bought my never-worn, silk shantung Bianchi gown for $650.  The style is discontinued, but it originally retailed for somewhere in the $1,500 ballpark. They have a whole range of manufacturers (lots of Bianchi, probably they buy overstocks from them since Bianchis are manufactured up here in Boston) and price ranges.  If you go there, ask for Joanie.  She was a great help to me. One thing to note:  If you see a dress that you really like, you need to be prepared to buy it right away.  They don’t hold any merchandise, and it’s basically one of a kind!  The dress may not be there when you go back (that happened to me, but I ended up with an even better dress when I went back).  So I recommend doing the bridal shop and Yolanda’s (if you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about!) thing BEFORE you go to Vows, just so you know what else is out there. I don’t have Vows’ number, but they’re in the phone book, and they’re in Newton. And, no, I’m not affiliated in any way with Vows, except as a very satisfied customer.  I got many compliments on my dress at our wedding two weeks ago. Hope this helps!
