- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It may be Anne Barge, an Atlanta designer. I don’t know what she looks like, but I know Anne Barge does have a very small line of dresses and they are all very elegant. Modern, simple, clean lines, great fabric. Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows of a bridal designer who is a small woman, from Georgia or another Southern state. My friend saw a gown in Klienfelds (Brooklyn). The saleswoman would not tell her who the designer was, but did give the above information. We are trying to find the dress in a local store however we don’t know what line we are looking for. I know this is a long shot, but I had VERY good luck getting designer inormation from this group when I got married 18 months ago!!! "HI JACK". Thanks, Brenda
You are right!!! It is Anne Barge! Thanks for your input. My frined is still thinking about her dress. She is priced much higher than other dresses she is considering, so we’ll see!!! Thanks again!

That is very weird. When I went to Kleinfeld’s I had a terrific experience. I’ll probably go back there to get my dress — it was the first one I tried on and nothing since has measured up, no matter where I look! When I was there the salesgirl was very forthcoming about who made which dress. But I got the impression that the personalities of the folks who work there vary wildly. In fact, I was glad I got the girl I did! Perhaps she can go back and ask for another salesperson?

Question:
This is my first post as an engaged woman on this board (I’ve posted as a MOH on occasion on behalf of my best friend) and I wanted to share my engagement story, and how far along we are on our planning (we cheated – booking some stuff before we were "official") Last week, my boyfriend, with whom I just bought an apartment, spent Xmas with his family in Arizona, while I was in Miami before returning to NYC (I had only monday off, he had a week). On Thursday, I thought he was going to Sedona before changing hotels since his family was leaving early Saturday. But he really flew from Phoenix to Dallas, where he was supposed to change planes, fly to Ft. Lauderdale (which is about 45 minutes from Miami Beach, and where his grandparents live, because he was going to drive to my parents’ at 6 am and ask them "The next time I see you, can we have breakfast since I have something to ask you" and then tell them he was outside so they could see him & they could have breakfast) but the flight was delayes 4-5 hours, but there was a flight leaving for Miami in 30 minutes that they could put him on, so he flew to Miami, called my parents from the plane, said it would spoil the surprise, but could he stay at my house because he had something to ask them (by this point, they knew what it was…) and they said SURE so he came there, was basically met by my dad & my german sheppard, and they had a talk and Aaron asked for his permission to marry me, and he said yes, so (it’s 1 am by now) thye woke up my mom, asked her, and she said yes. The next day, he spent time with my dad, then had dinner with his grandparents, then flew back to Newark. He called me from Atlanta at 10:30 (I was already asleep) and said "Sedona was lovely and I will see you tomorrow." Well, he did. At 1:30 am, I woke up to his yelling into the asnwerphone "Heidi, wake up. Heidi, wake up." So I did. He said "You have one hour to pack a bag, get dressed, and meet me downstairs. And by the way, I beat your dad at racquetball today." I knew what was coming….so I packed, tried to read & stay calm, and waited downstairs in the lobby for him. Around 2:30 he got home, took me back upstairs, and asked me in our new apartment. And I said yes. Of course. So we are getting married on October 19, 1996 in Miami Beach, Florida at The Doral on the Beach (has anyone used it?). We already have the hotel, band, florist, etc., and I am going gownshopping a week from Saturday here in NYC at kleinfeld’s and vera wang’s. Does anyone know if Bergdorf’s is worth it? I heard the selection is REALLY limited there. Heidi (and Aaron – October 19, 1996)

(really cute) engagement story, SNIPPED So we are getting married on October 19, 1996 in Miami Beach, Florida at The Doral on the Beach (has anyone used it?). Nice story!!! We didn’t get married at the Doral but we stayed there a few winters ago and LOVED it. I can’t imagine you’ll have any problems (but depending on the financial situation of your guests, in addition to saving Doral rooms, you might want to also save rooms at another, less expensive nearby hotel). Word of warning on Kleinfeld’s: it’s a must-do experience, and their stock is astoundingly huge, but it wasn’t the most fun I had. I found smaller shops to be far more accomodating; the poor women at K’s have to go searching through a literal warehouse to find dresses that fit the description you give, and while they’re good at it, we (my MOH & I) found it best as a starting point to see what we liked and didn’t. So, if you haven’t been dress shopping yet, know that Kleinfeld’s isn’t exactly a typical experience. Gwynne 6-24-95
